Timeline

march

  • Start reading through the Fulbright website (administered by the IIE - the Institute of International Education); review application information and individual country summaries.
  • Start researching academic programs abroad, including courses of study, degree programs (if applicable), and choice of universities. Consult with faculty about suitable programs, universities or institutes, and make initial contacts with departments and faculty abroad. (Note: the academic year at many universities abroad ends in June; faculty are often difficult to reach during the months of July through August.) Make contact with those who will provide your three letters of reference and let them know about your proposed Fulbright project. Acquire summer contact information for those who will write letters on your behalf.
  • Start developing a preliminary project proposal, select a possible country and identify affiliate institutions.
